Happy 2013! January DJ Gig with Chris Menist

Greetings kittens! Hope you had a lovely festive season. Happy 2013 to you all. This one is going to be slippery - it's the year of the sneaky snake starting in February.

I will be back at Mango Landin' on Friday 18th January alongside special guest selector Chris Menist.

Chris and I will be spinning vintage vinyl treats from all over the world for you. Chris has an amazing collection so I am really looking forward to hearing his crate digger's selection!

I recently purchased PB02 and PB03 45s on the Paradise Bangkok record label (little Xmas prezzie to myself!). A must for any collector of East Asian vinyl. Available at Soul Jazz or Boomkat.

Sadly there is a problem with my (admittedly ancient) amp so I cannot record vinyl at the mo'. Therefore no tasty New Year online mix for you, apologies. I hope you won't be too disappointed with an mp3 mix until I can get the amp fixed (or buy one of these)

So - got any new year resolutions? I am considering setting myself the task of watching all of the top 200 Lovehkfilm movies this year. What a great countdown, presume In the Mood For Love will be in the top 5.....

Copesetic Sound System in Manchester Sat 27th Oct

This Saturday I highly recommend ska-ing on down to the M19 bar to hear the amazing record collections of the Copesetic DJs.  Their beautiful sound system is vintage style valve and hand-built.  Lovely warm sound with vinyl 45s from Memphis to JA.  If you're in the Manchester area this should be a great night out.  And you'll be able to get a naan bread kebab on the way home, yum.

You are cordially invited to join me on Friday 20th July for my Birthday party at Mango Landin' in Brixton.  My old friend Jak is coming down from Manchester with a case full of vintage 45s to make you move your dancing feet.  I'll be spinning a few platters myself alongside my brother DJ Geko.  As usual it's free all night.  Please note the dress code which is Sharp 60's or China Chic but preferably both!

A satirical extravaganza about China, Britain, imperialism and drugs in the 19th century in verse & music. See narco-capitalists & Chinese lawmakers slug it out, take part in a poetry slam, and watch the weirdest tea ceremony ever.

I am going to be DJing at this fantastically eclectic evening. I'll be playing Chinese music from the 1920s and 30s (Zhou Hsuan, Bai Guang etc) and a few opium themed tracks.

Lucky Cat Club - Fri 30th April @Arts Bar

To celebrate series 4 of the radio show Lucky Cat (last episode next Thursday 8th April) I'm having a party. I've invited special guest Jean-Paul Séculaire (Right On! club and author of the London Dossier) to do a DJ set. I'll be playing too of course, vintage sounds from Shanghai to New York - from Yao Lee to Brenda Lee! Chef Malcolm will be running an East Asian bakes n' cakes stall and I'll be screening Shaw Brothers films on the walls of the lovely Arts Bar.

Arts Bar is tucked away above the Funky Monkey in Camberwell, a great bar with plenty of room to dance as well as sofas to lounge on.

So get your cheongsams drycleaned now!
